Regardless of age, children\u2019s needs can be understood in terms of the three L\u2019s. What do they each mean?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Love<\/strong> \u2013 unconditional positive acceptance, children knowing that they are the most important people in the world to their parents, paying attention, being present, listening, feeding, clothing, housing \u2013 all of that is love.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Limits<\/strong> \u2013 providing boundaries, routine and structure, helping children feel safe in the knowledge that there are rules that will be enforced.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Liberty<\/strong> \u2013 enabling children to explore, develop, grow, and gradually become independent, providing children with sufficient freedom that they can try new things and safely make mistakes while discovering their capabilities and extending themselves.<\/p>\n<p>So a two-year-old needs love (hugs, playing games, food), limits (to be told \u201cNo\u201d and have it followed up with action), and liberty (opportunity to try new skills while playing) as much as a 15-year-old needs love (listening, advice, food), limits (rules, curfews), and liberty (responsibilities, socialising).<\/p>\n<p>Parenting is a challenging and difficult job, but if the three L\u2019s are always present you will be on the right track.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[33,35],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-737","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-children","category-families"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/kevingarner.co.nz\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/737"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/kevingarner.co.nz\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/kevingarner.co.nz\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/kevingarner.co.nz\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/4"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/kevingarner.co.nz\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=737"}],"version-history":[{"count":3,"href":"https:\/\/kevingarner.co.nz\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/737\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":744,"href":"https:\/\/kevingarner.co.nz\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/737\/revisions\/744"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/kevingarner.co.nz\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=737"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/kevingarner.co.nz\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=737"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/kevingarner.co.nz\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=737"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
